This box features an intensely-figured Tiger Maple top and sides from a Canarywood board that I’ve been holding on to for years. Gorgeous colors in this Canarywood and when paired with this exceptional Tiger Maple have made for a lovely box.
A very distinctive and attractive metal pull with a gentle curve adorns the top.
The joinery on this box is miters with Katalox miter keys which have a dual purpose in adding both a decorative element as well as making the miter joint stronger.
The padded lining is upholstered in a suede fabric. I’ve developed a custom, furniture-style upholstery technique for my boxes which results in a more luxurious feel than just lining the box bottom with material.
Finished with a variety of products to enhance the grain as well as provide a high-gloss appearance. Finishing is the most variable and potentially complex part of woodworking. I easily spend the majority of time in my builds in finishing. Many stages… many products are involved in order to achieve what you see in my final products.
The underside of this box is signed and dated.
